4 July 2024

Pipe renewals are going full steam ahead in Lower Hutt, with a second phase of drinking water renewals in Stokes Valley and Wainuiomata completed over a month ahead of schedule – and a third phase underway!

Works are live on Manuka Street, and Zeala Grove, Korau Grove and Amundsen Grove:

  • Manuka Street - January to April

  • Zeala Grove - January to April

  • Korau Grove - February to May

  • Amundsen Grove – February to May

There will be some noise, however our crews will do their best to keep this to a minimum!

To complete this important work safely and efficiently, we will require that all vehicles are clear of the work site during working hours. Any vehicles parked in the work site are a potential hazard and an obstruction. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

At times, this work may cause an inconvenience to residents, but we'll do what we can to minimise disruption. Our crew is committed to completing work safely, and on time.

Renewing pipes is key to preventing leaks in the first place. This keeps repair costs down, and reduces those frustrating outages.

Here are the key numbers from the works completed to date:

  • 4.4km of pipes renewed

  • 273 renewed customer connections

  • 118,000 litres of water estimated to be saved every day

This work has been done primarily using trenchless technology. Trenchless technology basically means exactly that – we don’t have to dig up a trench to install new pipes. This reduces disruption, waste and carbon emissions
