Water restored in Brooklyn, Vogeltown, Kingston and Mornington

Water restored to Brooklyn, Mornington, Vogeltown and Kingston
Wellington Water crews have restored water to Brooklyn, Mornington, Vogeltown and Kingston after repairing a broken pipe found yesterday at the Brooklyn Reservoir.
“The team has repaired the pipe, refilled the reservoir, and flushed the network successfully.” Says Chief Drinking Water Advisor, Laurence Edwards.
“Water is now available to residents and businesses in Brooklyn, Mornington, Vogeltown and Kingston.
“We’d like to remind people to run a cold tap for a few minutes to clear any air pockets or cloudy water from pipes before using hot taps, dishwashers and washing machines.
“Thank you to everyone who helped and to the community for their patience.”
UPDATE 2: SAT 19 FEB, 5PM
Wellington Water crews are working to restore water after repairing a broken pipe found yesterday at the Brooklyn Reservoir.
“We have made good progress and have repaired the pipe and are now refilling the reservoir.” Says Chief Drinking Water Advisor, Laurence Edwards.
“Once the reservoir is full, we will slowly add water into the network.
“This process is complex and it's important we take the time to do it slowly or we'll cause further damage to the network.
“It will take around 3 to 6 hours, all things going well, we’re hoping to have water back on by late this evening, around 11pm.
“Because this is late, and we don’t want to wake residents with loudhailers, we will be updating our social media pages when the water is restored.”
Wellington Water is asking residents not to assume that water is back on, if they see staff opening valves and checking hydrants in their area.
“If residents use the water supply while it’s off it could cause more damage to the network and mean that the water is off for longer.” Says Laurence
As per our last update, water tankers will remain at the following locations:
- Brooklyn Primary School, Washington Ave, Brooklyn
- Ridgeway School, Mornington Road, Brooklyn
- Near the Brooklyn Food Market, Cleveland St, Brooklyn
- Krull St Playground, Vogeltown, on the side of the road
These tankers will be available until 11.30pm. The Brooklyn Community Centre will also continue to be open with bottled water available until 11PM.
Residents can continue to use an emergency water supply if they have it – just boil it for a minute before use.
Vulnerable residents or those who are isolating at home should call Wellington City Council call centre and provide them with their address and we can arrange for contactless delivery of water.

UPDATE 2: SAT 19 FEB, 2PM
Steady progress being made on the Brooklyn Reservoir repair.
Wellington Water crews are repairing a broken pipe found yesterday at the Brooklyn Reservoir.
“We are making good progress on the repair.” Says Chief Drinking Water Advisor, Laurence Edwards.
“Once this is complete, we will start the process of putting the water back into reservoir.
“Once the reservoir is full, we will slowly add water into the network. This process is complex and will take several hours.
Wellington Water is asking residents not to assume that water is back on, if they see staff opening valves and checking hydrants in their area.
“If residents use the water supply while it’s off it could cause more damage to the network and mean that the water is off for longer.” Says Laurence
“We will update our Facebook page and website once water is back on, around mid-late evening.”
Water tankers will remain at the following locations:
- Brooklyn Primary School, Washington Ave, Brooklyn
- Ridgeway School, Mornington Road, Brooklyn
- Near the Brooklyn Food Market in Brooklyn shops on Cleveland St, Brooklyn
- Krull St Playground, on the side of the road
We are low on supply of bottled water at the Brooklyn Community Centre but we’re organising for one of the roving water tankers to be set up here. Our crews have been delivering bottled water to our more vulnerable residents and so far, we have delivered 480 litres of bottled water. Deliveries will continue as needed.

"We have volunteers at the centre who have a list of vulnerable people and they're ringing around to do welfare check ins & arrange for contactless water deliveries," says Laurence Edwards Chief Advisor of Drinking Water.
"The team are still working on the option to get a water tanker set up in Vogeltown, and we'll let people know once that is available.
"We'd like to thank residents for their continued patience as we work to fix the pipe."

Residents in Brooklyn, Kingston, Vogeltown and Mornington are currently out of water due to a broken pipeline found yesterday at the Brooklyn Reservoir that feeds water supply into the Reservoir.
"Wellington Water crews have been working throughout the night to put in a temporary fix to the broken pipeline. Unfortunately, this work has required removal of a lot concrete around the pipe, which has taken us longer than expected. While we continue with this work, we have had to turn off the water supply in Brooklyn, Kingston, and Mornington as reservoir levels have dropped significantly." says Laurence Edwards Chief Advisor of Drinking Water.
We have made water tankers available at 6am at the following locations to provide drinking water to residents:
- Brooklyn Primary School, Washington Ave, Brooklyn
- Ridgeway School, Mornington Road, Brooklyn
- Near the Brooklyn Food Market in Brooklyn shops on Cleveland St, Brooklyn
"We also have another three water tankers that are driving around the area for those who are unable to reach the tankers at the above locations. Vulnerable residents or those who are isolating at home should call Wellington City Council call center and provide them with their address and we can arrange for contactless delivery of water.
"We expect the water to be out for most of the day.
"We realise this is not ideal and apologise for the inconvenience. Our crews are working hard to repair the pipe as soon as possible."
